Dr. Popko says that her favorite part of working at Grand Dental is the family environment. Each team member strives to make the patient experience seamless so that people can expect extraordinary care and friendly service at each appointment. Patient education is also extremely important; Dr. Popko is happy to answer any questions you might have about your dental health, from daily routines to nutritional choices.
“I always enjoyed going to the dentist as a child and decided to become one at a very young age. I always looked up to my pediatric dentist. He was my mentor, and I wanted to be just like him. It wasn’t until dental school that I decided not to go into pediatrics, so I could keep my dental office as unlimited as possible and treat a wide variety of patients. I still love to see the kiddos though!” - Dr. Mackenzie Popko
Dr. Popko’s college career began in her native Minnesota, where she earned her undergraduate degree at Winona State University. She went on to graduate from the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine, and since being out of school, she has completed advanced training in Invisalign, laser therapy, and dental implants. She is also an active member of the American Dental Association and Illinois State Dental Society.
Dr. Popko met her husband, Alex, while in dental school (which is why she ended up staying in Illinois!), and they recently had their first daughter. They also have an unlikely duo of dogs-- a husky/pit-bull named Prea as well as a Yorkshire Terrier named Jackson. When relaxing, Dr. Popko likes to cook, bake, and take on all sorts of DIY projects. She also enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially spending time in the Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. But as you can imagine, taking care of an infant keeps her very busy these days!
