Gum disease is an incredibly common oral health condition that has a variety of symptoms. One of the most common is gum recession, where the gums pull away from the teeth and expose the roots. This leaves them at a higher risk of sensitivity, damage, and infection. Fortunately, we offer a type of gum disease therapy in Channahon called the Chao Pinhole® Technique. Our team utilizes this service to help eliminate the need for complex or drastic periodontal treatment with long recovery times. Instead, we can gently reposition the gums for a healthier smile. Call us today to schedule your appointment with our in-house Channahon periodontist.
Instead of relying on scalpels and sutures to bring gum tissue back together, the Chao Pinhole® Technique uses a far more minimally invasive method for treating gum recession.
Your Channahon dentist will insert a small needle or “pinhole” into the recessed gums and carefully stretch the tissue. Once it has been loosened, your periodontist will use specialized instruments to pull it over the exposed roots.
No gum tissue is being grafted from another part of your mouth and no sutures are required, making this a far more comfortable treatment with a much faster recovery time.
Periodontists will primarily recommend Chao Pinhole® Technique to treat gum recession.
The gums may pull back from the teeth and expose the roots due to aggressive toothbrushing, poor oral hygiene, smoking, teeth grinding, genetics, hormonal changes, or periodontal (gum) disease. Chao Pinhole® Technique can treat gum recession from any of these issues.
The Chao Pinhole® Technique makes it easy to treat multiple areas of gum recession in a single appointment. Alternatively, traditional gum grafting often requires several visits to achieve desired results.
The Chao Pinhole® Technique offers numerous advantages over traditional forms of gum recession treatment, such as:
